Why did SLAC vote to not support that affordable housing project?

Great question. We didn't attend the commission meetings, but we are under the impression that a few commission members value the environmental materials recycling operation currently on the site (even though the company has numerous lawsuits and code violations) over the addition of new affordable housing units.

How do we hold the Pizzuti project to the pledge they made early on to designate some of the units for low income housing? We can't let this opportunity slip by when the need is so great...

Good question! I have reached out to Pizzuti and will let you know if I hear back. We are under the impression there are no affordable units included in this proposal. We also know that if there were, the neighborhood opposition to this project would be even stronger!

Just heard back! "Given there is no tax abatement on the property, there is not an affordability requirement and therefore no payment in-lieu of fee." Also, the project is not located in the South Side Community Reinvestment Area (CRA).
